Modern mental health care is an evolving discipline in Vietnam. Signifcant guidance  from New Zealand professionals will be required to implement new programmes.

New Zealand Vietnam Health Trust volunteer, Dr Helen Hamer, is one of a group of professionals that travel to Binh Dinh annually to educate doctors & nurses in modern psychiatric care techniques. With greater resourcing, we can help improve the quality of life for Vietnamese individuals, families, and communities contending with mental health issues.

"This is an afternoon session using the format of clinical case supervision.
We discuss patients that we have assessed that morning session on the
wards. I use a 'train the trainer' approach, working with senior leaders to
change practice, and model new techniques to the other nurses. There is minimal
turnover of staff at this hospital so I get to work with the same nurses each year
that I return."
